Haddad Adel made the remarks in a meeting in Geneva Monday with his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berry on the sidelines of the 117th meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

During the meeting, the Iranian speaker noted the two countries’ good relations, and said that Lebanon has a very significant position in Iran’s foreign policy.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran attaches much significance to its political, parliamentary and cultural ties and cooperation with Lebanon,” he said.

Haddad Adel also praised resistance of the Lebanese nation, and viewed unity of all Lebanese groups as a main factor contributing to the welfare and prosperity of the Lebanese nation and safeguarding that country’s independence.

“Iran has always supported unity and national sovereignty of Lebanon,” he said, assuring that Tehran will continue its political support for the Muslim and brother country of Lebanon.

For his part, the Lebanese parliament speaker termed Tehran-Beirut relations as brotherly and friendly, and lauded Iran’s spiritual and political support for Lebanon.

He further reiterated the need for the Lebanese nation to safeguard their unity and integrity at the present juncture in a bid to confront the plots of the United States and Israel in the region.

Berry also pointed to the victory of the Lebanese Islamic resistance against the Zionist regime last year, and said continued resistance of the Lebanese nation would save the country from foreign plots.
