Leader of Islamic Revoluation Calls for Perseverance in Nuclear Row

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has vowed that there will be no retreat in Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.

“Perseverance (in the nuclear issue) is a national necessity, because if today we do not continue efforts to utilize nuclear technology, we will fall behind the world; secondly, any retreat would encourage the enemy to advance,” he told a gathering of people in Abarkouh in the central province of Yazd on Saturday.

“Access to nuclear energy is truly Iran’s inalienable right,” Ayatollah Khamenei asserted.

Turning to the 2008 legislative elections, the Supreme Leader called on Iranians to actively participate in the poll, saying that a high turnout “in the March 14 election would show the Iranian nation’s determination and power.”

The enemy has been seeking to discourage Iranians from voting in various elections, but the people have acted against their will through their enthusiastic participation, Ayatollah Khamenei said. “We hope this will be the case in the next polls, too.”

The Supreme Leader described the election as an opportunity for a “positive contest” and warned “nominees and their supporters” against “defaming, accusing, and insulting” rivals.

Addressing a rally in the city of Yazd earlier on Wednesday, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “The eighth Majlis election is the most important event of the year” and provides a great opportunity to show the world the determination and wisdom of the Iranian nation.
