TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki lashed out at the United States for continuing failed policies, saying the fact that the US renewed its contract with Blackwater signals Washington’s desire to pursue its ‘failed policies’ in Iraq.
“Instead of acknowledging the failure of its policies, Washington continues to shift the blame onto others,” press tv quoted Manouchehr Mottaki as saying at a joint press conference with the Philippines’ Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo.
Mottaki pointed to Blackwater’s massacre in Iraq under the pretext of protecting American diplomats, and called on the Iraqi government to take charge of security-related issues in the country.
The Iranian minister expressed hope that the upcoming meeting of Iraq’s neighboring countries in Kuwait would address such issues and help resolve the crisis in the war-battered country.
The US State Department has extended its deal with private security firm Blackwater for another year.
This is while the killing of 17 Iraqis by Blackwater personnel in September 2007 is still under investigation.
