(Reuters) – Following are security developments in Afghanistan at 3:30 a.m. EDT on Saturday:

KANDAHAR – Gunmen shot dead a member of the parliament outside his house late on Friday in the southern province of Kandahar, the government said.

HELMAND – Ten Taliban insurgents were killed while planting roadside bombs in the southern province of Helmand late on Friday, police said on Saturday.

PAKTIKA – An operation by Afghan soldiers resulted to the deaths of eight militants in southeastern Paktika province on Friday, the Defence Ministry said. Three soldiers were killed and 10 wounded in separate incidents in other parts of the country.
