Ahmadinejad Blames Zionists for Georgia Crisis

A00461181.jpgTEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Thursday that there is evidence that proves Zionists are behind the events on South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

“We have information showing that Zionists have had a role in the situation in South Ossetia and Abkhazia,” Ahmadinejad told reporters on the sidelines of the Eighth Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

He said that the problem in the Caucasus was caused by the intervention of the “ultra-regional powers”, reiterating that if those powers didn’t interfere, regional governments would be able to solve their problems on their own.

“In our opinion, if Georgian officials had acted properly and not allowed outside forces to interfere, the situation wouldn’t have taken on its current dimensions,” the president said.

He said that the world is speedily moving toward change and development.

He said that on the one hand, there are changes that come as a result of unilateralism and discrimination, and on the other, there are those that result from the resistance of nations to movements that run counter to humane approaches.

The proper method of change, he said, is the recourse to law and justice and making respect for human beings and law the basis of international relations.

Asked about the Iran-US relations, President Ahmadinejad said, “Had US officials heeded the view of experts, conditions would have recovered by now.”

Regarding the summit, the president said the SCO members constitute more than one third of the world population and enjoy high capacity with drastic impact on global equations.
