Germany Backs Kosovo’s Territorial Integrity

Pristina – Germany is against Kosovo’s partition and fully backs the blueprint for Kosovo’s independence devised by ex-UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari, says Germany’s Defence Minister.

“We are for a united Kosovo. Germany supports Ahtisaari’s plan and its principles to respect all communities’ rights, especially the Serbs,” said Franz Jozef Jung after his meeting with Kosovo’s President, Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci.

Jung also pointed out that his country fully supports the deployment of the European Union’s new law-and-order mission, EULEX, to Kosovo.

He added that EULEX will manage to extend its power all over Kosovo despite opposition from local Serbs.

Kosovo’s senior leaders voiced their opposition to the ‘administrative’ partition of Kosovo by which EULEX, will take a ‘softly, softly’ approach to the overwhelmingly Serb-dominated areas of northern Kosovo.

Germany was among the first countries to recognise Kosovo’s declaration of independence from Serbia on February 17.
