Students from universities in Sofia will protest in front of the Bulgarian Parliament as a sign of solidarity with their colleagues from Varna who protested yesterday against the brutal murder of Radostina Evtimova.
‘We as students from Sofia we owe solidarity to our colleagues from Varna in a time of tragedy’, says a press release by a student’s organization. Citizens of the Bulgarian capital are also invited to join in if they support the students.
The rally is set to start at 11.
Radostina Evtimova was found dead in her home on March 6th, after suffering 50 puncture wounds and having been left to bleed to death. Georgi Tsvetanov, the son of rightist party Union of Democratic Forces’ local leader Tsanko Tsvetanov, is the only suspect for the brutal murder.
According to information leaked to the media Tsvetanov became the main suspect after the investigating policemen found a video clip of the murder on his mobile phone.
Schoolmates of the alleged murderer told members of the media in the following days that he had violent tendencies and had been beating them up in the past. He even had set another student on fire once.
His father told the media that if his son is guilty he should be punished. I will not try to influence the police investigation in any way, said Tsanko Tsvetanov.
Yesterday 3,000 students from Varna gathered on a rally in front of the Judicial Palace in the seaside city while the court was watching Tsvetanov’s appeal against his 15 year prison sentence. The protesters called for a life sentence.
