BiH House of Representatives approves constitutional amendments

SARAJEVO, Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) – The House of Representatives adopted the proposed constitutional amendments on Wednesday (March 25th) regarding the Brcko District’s status.

Thirty-six of the chamber’s members supported the amendments, while one voted against and two abstained.”. According to the amendments, the district’s legal status will be protected by the constitution, and BiH’s constitutional court would resolve any disputes between the entities concerning Brcko’s final status.

Relations between the district and BiH institutions may further be guided by legislation approved by parliament. The House of Peoples is expected to vote on the amendments on Thursday.

Resolving this issue is a prerequisite for transforming the Office of the High Representative into the Office of the EU Special Representative.
