Zbogar has announced that Slovenia would respond to Rehn`s proposal in time, but there are still no details.
Slovenia has responded to the latest proposal of European Union expansion commissioner Olli Rehn on Monday, Slovene STA agency reports Tuesday, stating that the Slovene Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the news. There are no other details.
Slovene Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Zbogar said at the Parliament on Monday that Slovenia will respond to Rehn`s proposal in time and state its observations, but he did not wish to give any details.
EU expansion commissioner Rehn has presented a new compromise proposal regarding the framework of solving the Croatian-Slovene border dispute, at a meeting with Croatian Foreign Affairs Minister Gordan Jandrokovic and his Slovene counterpart Samuel Zbogar last Wednesday. According to the proposal, a group of experts would act on the matter, headed by former Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari.
The meeting also included a preliminary discussion on the proposal, while the two parties obliged to respond to it soon. The next three-way meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.
Experience and reputation most important
Former Finnish president Martti Ahtisaari has great experience in solving conflicts, can help seek a European solution for the border dispute and he does not have to be an attorney to respect international law, Olli Rehn said on Tuesday in Brussels.
Thus, the commissioner responded to a remark stated by Doris Pack, who asked about Ahtisaari`s role, seeing how he lacked legal background.
Somewhat earlier, Rehn also said he expected “constructive agreement” from Croatia and Slovenia to the new proposal, regarding the framework for solving the border dispute between the two countries.
