Romania promises ongoing support for Georgia’s EU and NATO bids

Bucharest

Romania’s foreign minister promised continued backing for Georgia’s bids to join the European Union and NATO during a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Friday in Bucharest.

Energy policy will also be an important part of the political dialogue between the two nations in the near future, said the Romanian minister, Cristian Diaconescu. The two countries are considering ways to cooperate more closely in the Black Sea.

Georgia will take advantage of “every piece of advice from our Romanian colleagues,” said Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze.

Vashadze further noted that Romania has regularly supported Georgia on the international scene, “especially in relation to territorial integrity and humanitarian aspects.”
