US encouraging Balkans’ EU entry through Athens

The United States in coordination with Greece are encouraging the Western Balkans’ integration into the European Union by 2014.

The paper quotes sources in the international community and in Serbian government as saying the desired date for the countries of the Western Balkan to join the EU is 2014.

The United States wants to wrap up the “Balkan issue” as soon as possible and ensure lasting peace and stability in the region and handing over a leading role to the European Union.

Washington picked Athens as best ally for this given that Greece is both close to the U.S. and the Balkan countries.
