It is important that Kazakhstan became the OSCE chair, Leader of the Democratic Movement – United Georgia Nino Burjanadze said.
“In due time I have supported Kazakhstan’s presidency,” she said at the news conference today. “I stand for OSCE’s active engagement in the problems of those countries that enter the organization.”
According to her, the OSCE chairman should be informed of the situation prevailing in Georgia, concerning the democracy and the situation in conflict zones. “Resolution of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict is possible only through dialogue between the Georgian, Ossetian and Abkhaz peoples, but, unfortunately, it is a long process,” she believes.
Burjanadze also expressed support to the initiative on holding the OSCE summit in Astana.
“If the OSCE member-states want the organization to have the casting vote, they should meet for a debate,” she said. “OSCE needs reform, as for today there is no real opportunity to take drastic measures because of procedural problems.”
OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Kazakhstan’s Secretary of State and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev visited Azerbaijan and Armenia and is currently on an official visit to Georgia under his South Caucausus visit Feb.14-17.
