Moldova wants to be member of UN Human Rights Council

Moldova decided to apply for membership of the UNHCR Executive Committee and the UN Human Rights Council during 2011-2012.

The announcement was made by Moldovan Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase in Geneva, where the United Nations Council is holding its 13th session.

In a meeting with the director of the UNHCR Bureau for Europe Judith Kumin, the Moldovan minister welcomed the decision to implement the EU-funded Regional Protection Support Project in Moldova, Belarus and Ukraine.

Alexandru Tanase said the Government is considering the possibility of ratifying the UN Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons as soon as possible. The national institutions are now examining all the economic, financial and social aspects of the required documents.

At the end of the meeting, Alexandru Tanase invited Judith Kumin to pay a working visit to Moldova to discuss the cooperation prospects.
