EU Ambassador Erwan Fouere says the name is the main issue in the negotiations between Macedonia and Greece

EU Ambassador Erwan Fouere called on Macedonia and Greece to step up the pace and focus on the name, which he says is the main issue in the negotiations.

It’s important that both sides try to speed up the pace of meetings to ensure that there is no misunderstanding regarding the scope of the discussion. UN mediator made it clear – the talks focus on the issue of the name. All other issues are insignificant, Ambassador Fouere said.

The best way to overcome the different views is that both sides have more intensive discussion in order to reach a compromise – a resolution that will safeguard the identity, he added.

Ambassador Fouere underscored that the identity is a sacred thing and it cannot be changed.
