EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele: Name settlement for start of accession talks with EU

I hope that Macedonian and Greek governments will use the remaining time of Spain’s mandate as the holder of the EU’s rotating presidency to solve name issue and finally get a green light by EU member states for start of accession talks with EU, EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele said.

We hope that we will be able to start accession talks with Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The country has made a fantastic progress in 2009 and due to that progress European Commission recommended EU Council to start of accession talks with Macedonia towards the end of 2009. I truly hope that the remaining time of the Spain’s mandate as the holder of the EU’s rotating presidency will be used to solve name issue and allow the EU member states to give the green light, EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele said.
