MEP Joseph Daul: Naming dispute is controversial

MEP Joseph Daul, who visited Macedonia on Tuesday, expressed his support for solving name row between Skopje and Athens and called it a controversial issue. He said that that the two countries should find a solution within the framework of UN-led negotiations.

This procedure is not related to EU accession talks. The name settlement will certainly create a calmer political atmosphere in the region and I hope that will happen soon, Daul said in a written statement.

French MEP urged the European Council to set a date for start of EU accession talks with Macedonia.

During his visit on Tuesday, he said that he will ask the same thing from President of EU Council Herman Van Rompuy.

He send the same message during his meeting with Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski and President Gjorgje Ivanov.
