New EULEX deputy head appointed

British diplomat Andy Sparkes has been appointed new deputy head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission (EULEX) in Kosovo. Sarkes currently serves as UK’s ambassador in Priština.

Sparkes is to replace Roy Reeve. He will assume his duties in mid-October 2010 and was appointed for a period of one year, with a possibility of an extension. EULEX Head Yves De Kermabon said that Sparkes has the necessary experience to serve as deputy head of such a major rule of law operation in a difficult environment.
