UNMIK favors direct negotiations between Belgrade and Priština

UNMIK believes that talks between Belgrade and Priština should be direct and without mediators, stated UNMIK Spokesman Russell Geekie. He told Radio Television Kosovo (RTK) that it is still early to talk about the negotiations in which UNMIK could have a role in, but said that UNMIK suggests direct talks between Belgrade and Priština.

“However, we still don’t know the EU’s role, since (the talks) are a part of the European perspective,” Geekie pointed out and added that UNMIK was expecting recommendations from the UN Headquarters in New York.

On the other hand, Kosovo government officials are against talks that could be interpreted as interfering with Kosovo’s internal affairs.

Kosovo Deputy PM Hajredin Kuci told RTK that there would be no negotiations about Kosovo’s territorial reorganization.
