After meeting Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas, UN mediator Matthew Nimetz said that the relations between the two countries have come at a different level than before, but now is not the time for a final proposal.
After meeting Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov in New York on late Sunday, Matthew Nimetz, the UN mediator for the name issue, failed to come forward with a new proposal for the resolution of name dispute.
In the past several years I gave a set of proposals, but so far none of them was acceptable for the two sides. I believe that I will have to be very careful in the preparation of the new proposal, as several things have been put on the table and have to be taken into consideration by the two sides, UN mediator Nimetz said after the meeting.
A day earlier, UN mediator Nimetz met with Macedonian President Gjorgje Ivanov. After their meeting, Ambassador Zoran Jolevski said that Ivanov have told Nimetz about Macedonia’s determination and readiness in finding an acceptable name settlement, which will protect the dignity of Macedonian citizens.
