Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met in New York. The meeting was held at the initiative of the U.S side and lasted about an hour.
According to the press service, the sides discussed security and stability in the South Caucasus region. “One of the main issues was the discussion of the final meeting within the Charter of the Georgian-US strategic cooperation, to be held in Washington on October 6. A subsequent plan of cooperation will be discussed there,” the press-office of the Georgian President said.
Moreover, Saakashvili made a number of initiatives in education, health and economy, which involve the deepening of cooperation between the U.S. and Georgia in these areas.
The parties also paid special attention to the problems of the occupied territories of Georgia.
At the meeting the President and the Georgian Government expressed gratitude for U.S. support, especially on the position of Tbilisi towards Moscow.
Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze and Georgian representative in UN Alexander Lomaia attended the meeting from the Georgian side.
