Macedonia is ready to join its energy partners in Russia as a transit nation for the South Stream natural gas pipeline, the country’s prime minister said. Macedonia Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said during a meeting in Kiev that his country was ready to set the stage to host the Russian gas pipeline.
He said that during this time Macedonia intends to create the infrastructure on its territory
He added that Ukrainian companies were designing the gas transit facilities in Macedonia to host South Stream.
Azarov added that the decision to join the project translated into cheaper and more reliable energy resources for his country.
The pipeline could start carrying gas as early as 2015.
