Czech President Klaus visits Montenegro, shows support for country’s EU integration

Montenegro’s prime minister met with the Czech president on Wednesday and discussed the country’s current political and economic situation as well as its European perspective.

The Czech president’s visit to Podgorica is a confirmation that the country supports Montenegro’s bid for membership in the EU and NATO, as well as a clear signal that good bilateral relations between the two countries should continue to improve, Montenegrin Prime Minister Igor Luksic and Czech leader Vaclav Klaus said.

Prime Minister Luksic said that the Czech Republic’s experience with the European integration process can be helpful for Montenegro, largely because of the comprehensive reforms that raise the quality of life as a result of a continued rapprochement with the European Union.

Czech President said that it is better for the country to develop and mature on its path towards the European Union without stressing specific dates, and pointed to the strong commitment of the EU to continue its enlargement.
