Georgian FM says the French president’s Caucasus tour is very important

French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s visit to Tbilisi is a significant event in Georgia-France relations, Deputy Foreign Minister David Jalagania said at a briefing in Tbilisi on Monday.

During the meeting, Sarkozy will meet with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. The sides will discuss bilateral and multilateral relations, he said.

“France is a friendly country. We appreciate the French president’s role in August 2008. We hope that this visit is important not only for the Georgian-French relations, but also from a regional perspective,” Jalagania said.

Sarkozy will visit Georgia on Oct. 7 in the framework of a tour to the South Caucasus.
