Serbian FM expressed country position on EU candidacy

Serbia’s foreign minister Vuk Jeremic says that if Belgrade is asked to renounce UN Resolution 1244 on Kosovo, it is unlikely the country will become an EU candidate in March.

“As the president has said, the condition posed in December 2011 was a condition Serbia could not accept – renouncing Resolution 1244. If the same condition is posed before Serbia again in March, I can say it is unlikely we will get the candidacy,” the FM said.

According to Jeremic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other state bodies will do everything to make sure Serbia “is not issued a condition it cannot meet.”

“If we are successful in this, the candidacy will happen in March, or if not in March, at some later date,” he explained.
