Egyptian Prime Minister-designate Hazem el-Beblawi met Monday with visiting US Deputy Secretary Bill Burns and US Ambassador Anne Patterson.

They discussed the latest developments in Egypt and the implementation of the army-backed roadmap, according to a Cabinet press statement.

Biblawi was asked to form a new government by interim President Adly Mansour, who was sworn in under a roadmap by the powerful army that ousted elected President Mohammad Morsi and suspended the constitution.

Burns is expected to meet later Monday with Mansour, Vice President Mohammad ElBaradei and chief of the military and Defense Minister Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The senior diplomat arrived here late Sunday on the first visit by a high-level American official since the army ousted Morsi on July 3.
