Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki traveled Sunday to the United States, where he will attend the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York.
Marzouki will be addressing the assembly, which traditionally meets in late September and brings together heads of state from around the world.
Foreign Minister Othmane Jarandi is accompanying Marzouki. They left Sunday morning for New York, according to state news agency TAP.
While in the United States, Marzouki will address several think tanks and universities, including New York University on September 24, the International Peace Institute on September 25, and Princeton University on September 26.
His talks are expected to center on the transitional process in Tunisia and other “Arab Spring” countries.
At home, Tunisia’s political crisis will enter its third month this week, with Nidaa Tounes opposition party leader Beji Caid Essebsi calling for Marzouki’s resignation to be part of any deal to move the country out of paralysis.
