India holds strategic defense dialogue with Vietnam

The eighth round of Vietnam-India strategic national defense dialogue was convened in Vietnam’s southern Ho Chi Minh City on Friday, which was co-chaired by Vietnamese deputy defense minister Nguyen Chi Vinh and Indian deputy defense minister Radha Krishma Mathur.

Over the past years, Vietnam-India relations have finely developed and the two sides have shared both strategic benefits and challenges to secure national defense security, state-run Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reported, quoting deputy defense minister Nguyen Chi Vinh who addressed the event.

The eighth Vietnam-India strategic defense dialogue will contribute to further strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries, for peace, friendship and benefits of both sides, and contributing to peace in the region, Vinh said.

The defense dialogues between Vietnam and India so far have positively contributed to developing their bilateral defense cooperation, said Indian deputy defense minister, who added that Vietnam and India share many similarities, enjoy many mutual benefits as well as face with common challenges.

Cooperation with Vietnam is one of the pillars to India’s “East- directed policy.” India has respected for, and further expanded the multilateral cooperation, especially the bilateral cooperation in defense with Vietnam, said the Indian official.

Participants to the dialogue exchanged viewpoints on the regional and international issues, discussed and agreed measures to furthering bilateral cooperation and development in national defense, according to VNA.
