French tanks deployed around the presidential palace in Bangui

imgFour French tanks were deployed on Friday around the presidential palace in Central African capital Bangui, shortly after the country’s leader Michel Djotodia resigned during a summit of regional leaders in Chad.

Djotodia, who was installed as the country’s first Muslim president after a March coup, stepped down after intense pressure over his failure to stem deadly sectarian violence.
