U.S. President Barack Obama voiced support a week ago for Moldova’s European aspirations amid the West’s intense standoff with Russia over the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
Obama dropped by a meeting between his deputy Joseph Biden and visiting Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca at the White House, and “praised the strong and important friendship between our two countries and underscored the United States’ deep commitment to supporting Moldova’s European aspirations,” the White House said in a statement.
It said both Obama and Biden reaffirmed Washington’s “strong support” for Moldovan sovereignty and territorial integrity ” within its internationally recognized borders.”
