Egypt hails election of new Iraqi government

Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Badr Abdelatty welcomed in an official statement released on Tuesday the formation of an Iraqi new government headed by Haidar Al-Abadi, who was sworn-in before the Iraqi parliament on Monday.

Abdelatty stated that this is a positive step towards engaging all of Iraq’s communities to build the country’s future.

He expressed his aspiration of increased cooperation between Iraq and Egypt in the future, especially regarding the common regional challenges – in particular the “terrorism phenomenon” that has increased during recent months.

He stressed the importance of facing the current challenges that pose a threat to the national security of Arab countries.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has conducted several meetings with ministers from the 22 Arab League member states to address key political issues in the region – focusing on events in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Palestine.
