French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Laurent Fabius on Thursday met the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj here.
Fabius, accompanied by a delegation of fellow dignitaries, started his official trip to India today.
According to reports, Fabius will also be holding meetings with Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar before holding a discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As per French sources, the objective of this visit is to discuss a range of bilateral and international issues as well as the reduction of carbon footprints in rail transportation, climate change and sustainable development.
French National Security Advisor Jacques Audibert had earlier in October last year called on Prime Minister Modi during his India visit when the latter had confirmed that a trip to Paris had been scheduled for 2015.
