Egypt, Italy, Algeria discuss Libyan crisis

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry met with his Italian and Algerian counterparts in Cairo Monday to discuss the current Libyan crisis, according to the ministry’s webpage.
During the meeting, Shoukry stressed on the importance to continue supporting the efforts of UN Special Representative for the Southern Mediterranean, Bernardino Leon, “to reach an accepted and balanced political solution that reflects the Libyan people’s will.” He also stressed on the importance to face the wide spread of joint challenges including terrorism and the illegal
immigration.
On May 25, Egypt hosted the Libyan tribes’ conference which was attended by 350-400 tribes’ representatives to discuss the possibility of resolving the crisis peacefully.
“Libya’s future after reaching a political solution is to be considered from now,” said Shoukry.
Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni pointed that the meeting comes at a crucial time, in light of the recent events in Libya due to the growing phenomenon of terrorism led by the Islamic State (IS) group.
“Time is an important factor in countering terrorism and illegal immigration,” Gentiloni said.
Moreover, Algeria’s FM, Abdelqader Mosahel, said his country fully supports the Libyan people and the special efforts to reach a political solution.
