Beni – At least eight people are dead after fighting between rebels and the Congolese military, an army spokesperson told dpa on Saturday.
Seven Mai Mai militants and one civilian are reported to have died during clashes in the city of Bunyakiri.
The Mai Mai armed group, made up of between 5 000 and 7 000 predominantly Hutu fighters, was formed two decades ago to defend local territory against other armed groups allied with neighbouring Rwanda.
