TRIPOLI – the internationally recognized parliament Libya extended until Sunday a deadline for the formation of a new national unity government aimed at ending years of chaos in the countries of North Africa.
The legislators of Parliament, currently in exile in eastern Libya, on Tuesday voted to give Presidential Council UN-backed “until Sunday to form a national unity government,” he said on his website.
The council – composed of nine members of rival factions led by Libya and business Fayez Al-Sarraj – was to present a new range for the authority of power sharing, on Wednesday.
Sarraj, who is to become prime minister under an umbrella UN agreement signed by a minority of legislators of the two rival parliaments of countries in December, requested an extension on Monday.
UN envoy Martin Kobler Libya tweeted Wednesday that members of the Presidential Council met in Skhirat Moroccan resort met day and night to work on a new line Cabinet.
“Never seen the presidential council so involved in the day / night (meetings) to present a good list of the new unit (government),” he wrote.
Last month, Parliament has recognized, which must approve any unity government before he began his formal work, rejected an initial range of 32 ministers and asked to be cut.
