UN Secretary-General met Wednesday with Italian President Sergio Mattarella, discuss issues, including on Libya, Syria and Lebanon.
At the meeting here, “the Secretary General stressed that the political process is the key to solving the political, security and humanitarian in Libya,” said spokesman Stephane Dujarric UN
reporters here. “The secretary general and the president exchanged views on the situation in Syria and related challenges arising from the influx of refugees and migrants and the spread of violent extremism.”
The two leaders also discussed the importance of the monitoring and implementation of the Agenda 2030 Development – the master plan for the overall development adopted in September 2015 and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change – the Paris agreement adopted in December.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General thanked Italy for its contribution to the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, as well as its support to numerous United Nations agencies based in Italy.
