Russian President Vladimir Putin said that a terrorist hotbed in Syria had been eliminated, when speaking in a videoconference with his Syrian peer, Bashar Al Assad, the Kremlin announced on Monday.
Through joint efforts we have achieved a lot: the hotbed of international terrorism in Syria has been eliminated practically, Putin said.
The level of violence has also been reduced notably, peaceful life has been reestablished and an inclusive political process is being implemented under the auspices of the United Nations, the Russian head of State noted.
Russia continues to make active efforts to promote a long-term settlement in Syria, the reestablishment of its sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, the statesman pointed out.
Putin also noted the efficient work done in the framework of the Astana format (former name of the capital of Kazakhstan) with the participation of Iran and Turkey, guarantors, along Russia, of the mediation to end the conflict in Syria.
Syria’s reconstruction after the conflict, mainly the return home of Syrian refugees and displaced people, is of major importance in this stage, Putin stressed.
