The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have reported that their ground offensive in the Gaza Strip is expanding to Hamas centers across the territory, according to their chief spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagai.
The IDF has issued new orders for residents of the Gaza Strip to evacuate from 20 areas in the central part of the Strip, posting a map on social media with arrows indicating the southern areas towards which civilians should move.
The Israeli military has stated that civilians in Gaza should not use a portion of the crucial north-south Salah al-Din road. The northeastern section of the Khan Younis city is highlighted on the map published on social media by the IDF spokesperson, stating that this area is now a battlefield and extremely dangerous.
OPEN CONFLICT
He says that the IDF will allow civilians to move south from the areas north of Khan Younis using the coastal road.
The IDF had earlier called on people in a large part of the Khan Younis area to head south yesterday.
However, Israel had previously instructed Gaza residents to evacuate from northern Gaza to Khan Younis for their own safety.
Israel began attacks on Gaza after the Hamas attack on October 7, resulting in the death of 1,200 people and over 200 taken hostage. The Ministry of Health, controlled by Hamas, states that since then, 15,899 people in Gaza have been killed, including more than 5,500 children, with around 42,000 people injured.
The return to open hostilities after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has had ripple effects across the region. Since the expiration of the ceasefire on Friday, fighting has resumed in Gaza between Hamas and advancing Israeli forces, along with militants launching rockets towards Israel and Israeli airstrikes on Palestinian territory.
Hamas’ military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, is engaged in intense battles in the Gaza Strip with the Israeli military. A new propaganda video from Hamas shows disturbing footage of sniper attacks and rocket launches against the IDF. The battles are being fought at close quarters.
Palestinians in Gaza have nowhere to escape. From the north to the south, Israeli airstrikes are hitting refugee camps and residential buildings.
WORDLESSNESS
On October 13, the Israeli military ordered over a million people in the north to move south, stating it was for their safety. In almost two months of conflict, around 1.8 million Palestinians have been displaced from their homes.
A spokesperson for the UN children’s agency UNICEF said he is running out of words to describe the horrors affecting children in Gaza as the conflict continues. “This is currently the worst bombardment in southern Gaza,” emphasized James Elder.
Only nine out of 35 hospitals in Gaza are still working, and the Kamal Adwan Hospital is announcing closure due to lack of electricity.
