Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently on an official visit to the United States and is scheduled to address the U.S. Congress today.
Demonstrators gathered in front of the hotel in Washington where Netanyahu is staying and projected a message on the hotel wall: “Wanted. Arrest war criminal Netanyahu.”
A few hundred people gathered in front of the hotel and protested against the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
The demonstrators waved Palestinian flags, and the police took increased security measures in front of the hotel.
The message demanding Netanyahu’s arrest was projected onto the hotel wall using laser light.
Additionally, members of the organization Jewish Voice for Peace arrived at the U.S. Capitol building yesterday and refused to leave, expressing their dissatisfaction with Congress sending more than $14 billion to the Israeli military, in addition to the $3.8 billion sent annually. U.S. President Joe Biden has approved over 100 individual arms transfers to the Israeli military since October 2023.
The Israeli government has illegally occupied Palestinian land for 75 years and ethnically cleansed their communities. Now Gaza is facing genocide with full support from the U.S. We are here as Jews to refuse to be complicit and to say ‘never again’ to anyone. STOP ARMING ISRAEL, they stated.
After 9 months of U.S. government funding and arming the war crimes of the Israeli military, we make it clear: the only way to achieve a ceasefire is for the U.S. to stop sending weapons that are used to commit genocide against Palestinians. We refuse to let our tax dollars continue to fund genocide, they added.
Capitol Police arrested the demonstrators for what they described as “illegal demonstrations” inside the building.
Demonstrations are not allowed inside the Capitol building. We told people who had legally entered to stop or they would be arrested. They did not stop, so we are arresting them, the police wrote on the platform X.
