TEHRAN (FNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki underlined the need for the UN Security Council to return his country’s nuclear case to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
According to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Bureau, Mottaki made the remarks in a meeting Friday night with his Indonesian counterpart Noer Hassan Wirajuda on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, where the two top diplomats discussed the latest developments in Iran’s nuclear issue.
During the meeting, Mottaki stressed the need for the Security Council to show self-restraint until it receives the IAEA report on Iran, and said, “Considering the existing evidence and the different reports by the Agency, referring Iran’s nuclear issue to its appropriate place, that is the Agency, is the most important measure which should be taken by the Security Council.”
For his part, the Indonesian foreign minister viewed Iran-IAEA cooperation as important and constructive, and called for the accomplishment of the present trend of cooperation by the two sides as well as a final report on Iran’s nuclear case by the UN nuclear watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei.
Wirajuda also called for the start of prerequisite-free talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 – the five permanent UN Security Council members (Russia, China, Britain, France and the US) plus Germany.
Also during the same meeting, the two sides discussed the two countries’ major cooperation projects and exchanged views about a future visit to Iran by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
