TEHRAN (FNA) – Iran and Malaysia have identified four areas of collaboration in the agriculture sector namely, research and development, improvement in crop production, husbandry and fishing.
At the meeting in Putrajaya, Malaysia, which began Monday, Iranian agricultural managers discussed ways to boost cooperation between the two countries.
The representatives from Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture Jihad and Malaysian agricultural officials exchanged views in four working committees of research, development and education, food crops and animal husbandry and fishery products.
Malaysian Agriculture and Agro-based Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said these areas had been identified so that “we can collaborate, especially for Malaysia to learn from experience and success of Iran.”
“Iran has been self-sufficient in food for a long time and Malaysia not. We believe Iran’s strategy will help us achieve the target,” he told reporters at a joint press conference with Iran’s Minister of Agricultural Jihad, Mohammad Reza Eskandari in Putrajaya on Monday.
Eskandari is in Malaysia on a reciprocal visit following Muhyiddin’s visit to Tehran in June last year.
During Muhyiddin’s visit, both countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on agriculture cultural cooperation.
“The prime minister has directed the ministry to embark on aggressive food production to fulfill the needs of our people.
“So the collaboration with Iran in food production will definitely help us make headway towards increasing food production,” he said.
Meanwhile, Eskandari hoped agricultural development would further enhance both economic and political relations between the two countries.
