TEHRAN (FNA) – The Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union supported the right of Islamic states and particularly Iran to use peaceful nuclear energy.
The Union issued a statement at the end of its fifth meeting in Egypt, calling for lifting of the blockade of the Gaza Strip and opposition to the conspiracies of the Zionist regime. It also emphatically condemned the brutal atrocities of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people, a press tv report said.
The statement stressed the right of the Lebanese nation to resist Zionist occupation.
The Islamic Republic of Iran announced acceptance of the statement in its general form but expressed opposition to the use of the designation ‘Israel’, saying this implicitly confirms the existence of the Zionist regime.
The meeting refused to discuss the unfounded claims of the United Arab Emirates concerning the three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf. Iran said that the issue should not be raised at the meeting.
“We see no necessity for a discussion of the issue because it would waste the precious time of the Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union. We announce that Iran is ready to continue talks with the UAE officials over the case,” the Iranian parliament member Kazem Jalali said.
The Saudi parliamentary delegation praised Iran’s response and its stance on strengthening ties between the Islamic states.
Head of the Iranian delegation, Parliament Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel, also said that negotiations would be the only way to settle differences between Iran and the UAE.
