TEHRAN (FNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini voiced Tehran’s concern over tension and lack of security in its neighboring states, including Pakistan.
“We do not intervene in domestic affairs of any country but we hope that the Pakistani leaders and people achieve a consensus on the date of holding elections,” Hosseini said while addressing a press conference held at Iran’s Embassy in the Indian capital city, New Delhi, Mathaba reported.
Stressing the importance of expansion of Tehran-New Delhi ties, he said Iran-India relations have been established on the basis of common interest and mutual confidence.
As to launching of an Israeli spy satellite by India, Hosseini said, “The move can have two objectives, one trade and technical and the other espionage against Iran and certain Arab states. The Indian officials have said that their relations with other countries will not damage any third country,” Hosseini added.
On Russian approach regarding Iran’s nuclear program, he said Moscow is fully aware of the civilian nature of Iran’s nuclear activities.
Iran’s nuclear program is under direct supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and is within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), he said adding that reports issued by the IAEA Chief Mohamed ElBaradei indicated that they did not find even one single case of Iran’s diversion from its civilian program.
Asked about Washington’s policies in the region, Hosseini said the US is faced with a critical situation in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
“The US invaded Iraq under the pretext of the campaign against terrorism and establishment of democracy while its wrong policies led to the expansion of terrorism in the region,” he noted.
On the US sanctions on Iran, Hosseini said the Islamic Republic of Iran has faced with different US sanctions since the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
“And the Iranian nation has defeated the US by resisting to Washington’s arrogant demands,” he added.
