TEHRAN (FNA)- Arab League chief Amr Moussa said the 22-member bloc is eager to enter into talks with Iran over regional issues facing the Middle East.
In an interview with London-based Arab language daily Asharq al-Awsat, he called Iran an important country in resolving security and stability issues in the region.
Asked about whether a meeting between Iran and Arab states would be convened in the future, similar to the Turkish-Arab Cooperation Forum, Moussa responded that “I have declared more than once that Iran and Arab countries should hold talks” to resolve outstanding issues in the region, press tv reported.
The first ministerial meeting of the Turkish-Arab Cooperation Forum was held in Istanbul on Saturday, marking the launch of a new cooperation mechanism among the parties.
On Wednesday, Secretary-General of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, Abdul-Rahman al-Attiyah, called for strong ties between Arab nations and Iran. Al-Attiyah is expected to visit Iran in the near future.
In an address at the Arab House in Madrid, al-Attiyah also supported Iran’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
The PGCC Secretary General called for a nuclear-free Middle East and stressed that Iran’s nuclear issue should be resolved through diplomacy.
