Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov has stated his support for Moldova achieving “European integration” late Thursday at the start of his two day official state visit to the country, after meeting with his Moldavian counterpart Vladimir Voronin.
At a joint press conference Parvanov was clear in his support for Moldova’s European aims. “Bulgaria is aware of the need for further EU enlargement but also because it shares the EU institutions’ positive assessment of Moldova’s real progress.” President Voronin voiced his satisfaction regarding Bulgaria’s support.
The two heads of state put a further emphasis on cooperation in the sphere of energy and the need to work together to help the Bulgarian community of more than 90 000 people in Moldova.
Also on Thursday Parvanov opened a Bulgarian culture and information center at the Slavic University in Kishinew. About 300 students of Bulgarian origin are studying there
