TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel said if the West continues posing threats and sanctions against Tehran, that would mean that the nuclear issue is just an excuse for the US and some other powers to exert pressure on Iran.
Speaking at an open session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly here on Sunday, Haddad Adel said although Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani and EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana have expressed their satisfaction with their negotiations and stressed the need for continued talks, some western officials during the last two days after the recent 5+1 ministerial meeting in London have still been speaking of threats and sanctions against Iran, and added, “But since we are speaking logical words and do not intend to violate the rules and regulations and as we are interested in using the nuclear technology just for peaceful purposes, we are prepared to continue with the negotiations.”
He said Iran aims to raise its views and comprehend the concerns and worries of the other side in the course of talks, and continued, “If the other party is concerned about our military use of the nuclear technology, then I should remind them that we have always proceeded within the boundaries of the international rules and regulations and as we have already stated very frequently, we are ready to undergo any kind of supervision.”
“Yet, if they keep on speaking of threats and sanctions against us, then it will mean that the nuclear issue has turned into an instrument and excuse in the hands of the US and some other powers for exerting pressure on Iran,” the chief legislative official asserted.
To conclude his words, Haddad Adel stressed that his country would continue the present path (of negotiations) as far as logic and talks underlie the two sides’ interactions, “but if they intend to go on with their idea of threats and sanctions, then the Iranian parliament, as a body representing the entire nation, would have no way out but to insist on the country’s indispensable and inalienable right of access to peaceful nuclear technology.
