Butmir talks to resume today

Talks between U.S. and EU representatives and Bosnian political leaders will continue today at the Butmir military base.

The goal of the talks is the establishment of functional institutions at state level to allow Bosnia-Herzegovina to progress towards Euro-Atlantic integration.

However, the proposed changes have drawn angry reactions from the Serb and Bosniak parties.

Republic of Srpska Prime Minister Milorad Dodik called the document “indecent,” while Sulejman Tihić, the leader of the main Bosniak party, had serious objections because the question of entity voting had not been included in the proposal.

Today’s talks will be led by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt and EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn.
