Karadžić trial suspended

The Hague Tribunal trial of Radovan Karadžić has been suspended for one month, said reports. This came as the defense asked for time to review documents that were disclosed late by the prosecution.

The trial chamber noted that this tardiness could have a negative impact on the trial’s expediency, and once again asked the prosecution to “take seriously its disclosure obligations and ensure that all necessary resources are dedicated to ensuring timely disclosure of material to the accused”.

In the next month, Karadžić will be able to study documents found in the hard disk of a computer belonging to former Bosnian Serb Army (VRS) intelligence officer Dragomir Pećanac.

The computer was seized in his apartment in Belgrade in 2009. The defense believes that many of the 14,276 pages in question will prove favorable for Karadžić.

The former political leader of Serbs in Bosnia is standing trial accused of war crimes and genocide.
