One hundred Bulgarian peacekeepers sent to Bosnia

More than one hundred Bulgarian rangers have been sent to Bosnia and Herzegovina on a peacekeeping mission.

The Bulgarian servicemen will be assigned tasks related to security and defence at the Butmir base, near Sarajevo.

They will also have some responsibility for the control of automobile and pedestrian traffic at entrances and exits and forthe building of the EUFOR and NATO headquarters.

Operation ALTHEA was launched by the EU in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2004 as part of the Common Security and Defence Policy in support of the country.
