EULEX checks Russian trucks in North Kosovo

A Russian convoy of about 20 trucks transporting humanitarian aid to Serbs in northern Kosovo has been stopped and checked on the Kosovo-Serbia border at Jarinje.

European police and customs officers in Kosovo stopped a convoy of about 20 trucks allegedly transporting humanitarian aid from Russia to the Serbs of northern Kosovo. The convoy includes the Russian ambassador to Serbia.

The EU rule of law mission, EULEX, ordered a detailed cross check of the trucks’ loads, as it said Russia had not forwarded information on any list of goods that it was sending to Kosovo from Serbia.

By yesterday afternoon EULEX officials had processed three of the trucks at the Jarinje crossing and they were preparing to check a fourth.

EULEX did not want to comment on the issue but officials said there had clearly been a change of plan by the Russian side.
