Croatia Labour Costs Quarter of EU Average

Workers in Croatia earn only a quarter of the average hourly wage in the European Union, according to the country’s statistics bureau.The gross hourly rate in Croatia is just 6 euro, four times less than the EU average, five times less than the rate in Germany and Austria and half the rate in Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia, according to the website Croatia Week, citing data from the Central Bureau of Statistics.

Workers with higher education in Croatia earn around 1,100 euro net per month, whilst skilled workers earn an average of 800 euro net a month, the Central Bureau for Statistics adds.

Salaries in the eurozone slightly grew in the last quarter of 2012 with an increase of 1.3 per cent, according to the EU statistical body, Eurostat.

It reported that the end of 2012 salaries had increased in Romania, Estonia and Hungary by 6 to 8 per cent. Only Spain and Slovenia were in a downward trajectory.
